Highlighting Local Musicians Blog - John Anderson
A Local Country Star in the Making
We first met John during the planning of our MTAV BattleJam - Grand Opening Launch Party in Barrie, March 2015. Often, it is a family member who steps up and takes on the managing role for young artists just embracing a music industry career. Personally, I have not met a more committed family member than John's Father, Mark. It has been our pleasure following John's journey as he continues to make a name for himself in our region as a working musician, playing local venues, winning contests and most recently getting involved with the Simcoe Rising Stars #Dreambig Contest as a judge and mentor. John focuses on Country Music and for good reason. We are thrilled to be involved in John's first "Sold Out" EP Release Launch Party this Saturday, May 4th at Redline Brewery.

Mark writes:
John Anderson grew up on ball fields and in hockey rinks. March 31 2015, John picked up a guitar and sang a song that he sent to his mother. Mom played it for her grade 8 class and they all thought it was a superstar singing the song. It changed John’s life.
John was quickly encouraged by teachers to develop his musical talent. After a summer teaching himself the guitar he went to an open mic at the Stone Grill. John got up and sang a few songs. The place went quiet. The veteran musicians knew they were listening to something special even thou John and we had no clue. Again these musicians helped and encouraged John and within a few months he played his first paid gig at the Stone Grill. John got booked very quickly by different venues across Barrie area. It was amazing the support John got from every local musician he ran into, along with all the venues he played at, helping him out. It was really terrific. John started entering contests and winning them. A big break happened when he won Magna Hoedown, where Beverley Mahood and Tom Cross wrapped their arms around John.
John was taken to the next level. John left the ball field bright lights and embraced music’s bright lights exclusively. John developed his writing skills, guitar and vocal skills by working with a series of professionals across Canada and Nashville. A lot of work went into it. The whole family was involved, pitching in due to the amount of time and commitment required. The last 4 months have been very hectic for John with writing, studio time for recording, photo shoots, special courses, getting merchandise, being ready. John Anderson will have his first 7 song EP ready for release. One of those songs will be going to Country radio right away. You will find out that night.
