Paramedic Nat's 2nd Annual Mental Health Evening
A community comes together to help change the stigma of Mental Health
In the Live Events business, there is the odd show that sticks out and will be remembered for a long time, simply due to how the event affects you personally. Paramedic Nat's 2nd Annual Mental Health Evening is one of those nights. Mental Health has touched our family, like many others. As well, being a resident of Barrie for almost 50 years, we have seen many changes at RVH. The newest addition being the much needed Youth Mental Services department. #youngmindsmatter It was an honour to be present and have the opportunity to provide the audience with a well-executed Audio Visual experience so that nothing took away from the important messages presented throughout the evening. We met so many amazing, inspiring men and women who share the same mission to remove the #stigma from Mental Health.
You could hear a pin drop as top-level speakers (Sean McCann, formerly from the band Great Big Sea and Michael Landsberg, founder of #sicknotweak) shared their stories and true accounts of why Mental Health hits home. We enjoyed providing Sound Reinforcement support for Sean during his 5 song set. He describes how telling his story through singing and his song writing has helped in his recovery.
This event raised awareness and funds for the RVH Foundation (Youth Mental Health) and #IveGotYourBack911. The audience was filled with prominent Barrie residences, Serve and Protect men and women as well as Mayor Jeff Lehman and supporting area councillors.
The woman behind the evening is Natalie Harris. A local advanced care paramedic. She has published a book titled Save-My-Life School: A first responders mental health journey, whose foreword was written by 6-time Canadian Olympian and mental health advocate Clara Hughes.
